Once upon a time, in the ancient days, far far north in a wild and wondrous land, there stood a towering mountain that reached up to the clouds.
Hidden deep within its forests, lived a group of giants known as the Kuafu tribe. Their leader, Kuafu, was a mighty figure with two golden snakes dangling from his ears and another two coiled in his hands.
The Kuafu people were kind-hearted, hardworking, and lived in harmony, enjoying every moment of their peaceful lives.
But one year, the sun grew fierce and relentless, beaming down with such heat that trees crisped, rivers dried up, and the Kuafu tribe suffered greatly. Many of them fell ill and passed away.
Kuafu, the brave leader, felt a deep sorrow in his heart. He gazed up at the sun and vowed, "This sun is too cruel! I must catch it and make it obey us."
His people tried to stop him, warning that the sun was too far and too hot, but Kuafu's heart was set. "For the happiness of my tribe, I must try," he said firmly.
With a heavy heart but a steady step, Kuafu bid farewell to his people and set off towards the rising sun. He ran like the wind, chasing the sun across the sky.
The earth shook with every stride he took, and wherever he paused, the soil from his shoes piled up into a great mountain. When he stopped to cook, the stones he used to support his pot became three towering peaks, standing tall and proud.
As Kuafu drew closer to the sun, his strength and hope grew. Finally, at the edge of the world where the sun set, he caught up.
The blazing ball of fire hovered before him, its golden rays wrapping him in warmth.
Kuafu reached out with joy, but the sun's heat was overwhelming. Thirsty and exhausted, he ran to the Yellow River and drained it dry, then to the Wei River, drinking it all until not a drop remained. Still, he yearned for more.
With one last burst of energy, Kuafu headed north towards a vast lake, hoping its waters would quench his thirst.
But alas, he never reached it. Halfway there, he collapsed from exhaustion and thirst.
As Kuafu lay dying, his thoughts were filled with sadness for his tribe. With his last breath, he tossed his wooden staff aside.
And where it landed, a lush peach forest sprang up, providing shade for travelers and sweet fruits to quench their thirst, a lasting gift from Kuafu to all who would follow in his footsteps.
